Tonight I am sitting here wondering if this is really what I am feeling on my heart to write about… Death… Like I am saying to the Lord, that this is such a stark and dreary topic and that there REALLY are so many more uplifting and fun things than this but I know that death is inevitable and not one of us will be exempt from it. As I write this I am aware of the fact that death will eventually knock at each of our doors but I am reminded that death is not the end.
So my story begins with my Great Aunt sadly and unexpectedly passing away last week. We as a family were fully aware that she had breast cancer but due to her age and the fact that the cancer had spread, there was little that the doctors could do to treat her. She was definitely a fighter and many times when we visited and asked the nurse how she was doing the same response was reiterated, “This one is a fighter and does not give up very easily. (With a smile on her face)”
My mom and I were going about our daily routine when we received a very unexpected phone call to say that my Aunt had passed on. As I overheard my mom communicating with the nurse, waves of SHOCK and DISBELIEF flowed over me. Even though we knew the circumstances, her death was not expected. This news shook us both although we had a huge amount of peace throughout. My mom was the next of kin so she had to identify the body and then begin making all the funeral arrangements, and I assisted her wherever possible. My Aunts funeral was this week past and what an awesome celebration of her life. (89 years to be exact). She knew the Lord Jesus as her personal savior and we as a family have the peace and assurance that she is in heaven.
People might ask the question, “How do you know that she is definitely in heaven?” Well, the bible says that we can have the assurance of heaven if we know Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and savior. “Jesus answered and said to him, ‘Most assuredly, I say to you unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God (John 3:3)”. We also need to be aware that by no means can we earn our way into heaven, as it is not by works or anything that we can do but it is ONLY by what Jesus did on the cross for us. So no matter how hard you work, how good you are or how much good you do, this is not a qualifying factor. What does qualify us is that we do have a personal relationship with King Jesus. “Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. (Ephesians 2:9)”
If you don’t know Jesus as your personal savior today and you would like to know him intimately as your Lord and Saviour then you can pray the following prayer (I would love to hear from you if you do):
Lord Jesus, I admit that I am a sinner and I am in need of your forgiveness. I have lived my life according to my own will but today I come to ask for your forgiveness and surrender my life into your hands. I believe that Jesus died on the cross for my sins and was raised from the dead and that through Him I now have eternal life. I ask you Jesus to come and live inside of me and be Lord of my life. I believe in faith that I am now a child of God. Amen
“If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved” (Romans 10:9)
Therefore if you prayed this prayer, you are now born again and a child of Papa God. I celebrate with you and you now have the assurance that heaven is your home and death no longer has any hold over you. You can rest in the confidence that you are on the best adventure with a God that loves you beyond measure and only has the best in store for you! Praise King Jesus.
To those of you who have never taken this step I can only encourage you to do so, as you will enter into the best adventure EVER and begin to LIVE A LIFE WORTH LIVING!
